NO more than 122 cm (48 inches ) wide, 274 cm (108 inches high) from the floor, and 76 cm (30 inches) deep. All items must fit in assigned space and may not extend beyond the table.
Abstract, Forms 1C & 7
Certified Abstracts, Forms 1C and 7 (if required) are to be attached or displayed vertically at the project board.
Life
NO organisms or organic tissue, living or dead, including plants, animals, and microbes are to be displayed. This does not include the materials (wood and paper) of which the project is constructed. NO human or animal parts, histological sections, or wet mounts.
Photographs, graphic materials, data tables, and graphs
All photographs and graphic materials including graphs and data tables must be credited directly under the item. If all pictures were taken by one person then one citation may be given and displayed in a prominent place. Photographs depicting vertebrate animals (including humans) in other than normal conditions must be in a notebook. Visually offensive photographs or visual depictions of invertebrate or vertebrate animals, including humans are not allowed. (This may be determined by the Display and Safety Committee.) All pictures of human subjects MUST be accompanied by a consent form which grants permission to use the pictures.
Soil/Waste
NO soil, sand, rock or waste samples are allowed.
Chemicals/Water
NO chemicals, including water. NO liquids unless they are a critical part of an operative apparatus. These must be removed after judging.
Food
NO human or animal foods.
Sharp Items
NO sharp or sharp edged items (i.e. pins, thumbtacks, staples, syringes, needles, pipettes). Check all edges and corners on the exhibit.
Controlled Substances
NO poisons, drugs, controlled substances, hazardous substances or devices.
Gases
NO gases under pressure or super-cooled gases, including dry ice.
Fire/Heat
NO flames or highly flammable materials. NO temperatures above 75 C.
Lighting
NO lighting for display purposes only. Lights can only be used if they are a necessary part of the experiment.
Electricity
NO unshielded high-voltage equipment, large vacuum tubes or ray-generating devices; NO batteries with open-top cells; NO bare wires or exposed knife switches except in DC circuits of 12 volts or less. NO car or motorcycle batteries.
Machinery
NO unshielded belts, pulleys, chains, or moving parts that pose a hazard may be operated (display only). Confirm with D & S Chairperson.
Lasers
NO lasers (or other scientific instrumentation) which do not meet ISEF standards. (Class II, student-operated, sign, protective housing, and power disconnect) NO Class III and IV lasers may be operated. Lasers MUST have an undamaged, unaltered, readable, original label class. All lasers must be approved by a Display and Safety Chair Person.
Apparatus
NO non-functional apparatus or chemical containers empty or otherwise may be displayed. Confirm with D & S Chairperson.
Distractions
NO loud, disturbing, or distractive sounds will be produced by a project's equipment. NO bright or distractive lights.
Small Objects
NO small objects that are not encased or attached securely to the project.
Glass
NO glass allowed except computer monitors, television screens, and shielded florescent lights. NO unsecured glass of any kind (I.e. lenses, glass containers, thermometers, gauges, etc.) NO picture frames unless they are acrylic.
Embellishments
NO acknowledgements, awards, medals, business cards, flags may be displayed. Copy of the abstract is okay to hand out to judges. (No personal information)
Packing Materials
All packing and personal items must be removed from the exhibit hall. (After you have been approved by Display and Safety there should be NOTHING left under your table or around your project. These will be removed. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS.)
